Green Building and Sustainability CST 201

This course begins an in depth look at understanding and applying actual sustainability and green building practices to new construction and remodeling, as well the concepts of Life Cycle Analysis and Life Cycle Cost. Focus is given to resource efficiency, in lot design and development, building design, and material selection. Discussion will commence regarding alternative fuels, wind, solar and geothermal systems. Compliance methods and certification programs will be covered in detail, teaching students how to rate and certify a home’s Green level. Home owner education and operation and maintenance of a new home or remodel will also be covered.
