ENGY 131 Biodiesel Production

Major course topics include the following: A. Explain the biodiesel production process including chemistry and technology. B. Describe the biomass choices available for biodiesel production. C. Compare and contrast biodiesel with petroleum diesel. D. Define common terminology in biodiesel production. E. Demonstrate knowledge of reactants (e.g. alcohol, triglycerides). F. Demonstrate knowledge of products (e.g. biodiesel, glycerin). G. Explain the environmental, social, political, economic, and cultural impact of global biodiesel production. H. Describe fuel properties and specifications (ASTM standards). I. Describe safety requirements for flammable materials and acids/bases. J. Explain biodiesel distribution and marketing potential. K. Demonstrate knowledge of biodiesel plant design. Please note that all course materials and content are provided in the IMS Common Cartridge (IMSCC) format.
