NUR1521C Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing

This course is designed to assist the student in gaining knowledge and refining communication skills necessary to implement the nurse’s roles in the care of persons with biopsychosocial problems and concerns. This course focuses on the study of clients with mental health problems from the young adult years through senescence. Emphasis will be placed on the application of interpersonal and critical thinking skills. Major mental illnesses will be introduced and the nursing process used to explain how best to provide nursing care. Clinical experiences will be provided at inpatient psychiatric units and other community settings.
