Health Information Technology Foundations

Health Information Technology Foundations was developed with funding from the Open Professionals Education Network (OPEN), which is funded by the Gates Foundation to support Department of Labor (DoL) Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College & Career Training (TAACCCT) grantees. OPEN is funding the collaboration of Open Learning Initiative (OLI), Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST), and Creative Commons (CC) to work with TAACCCT grantees Bellevue College and MoHealthWins consortium members St. Louis Community College and Metropolitan Community College - KC. This course builds on source content created with funding from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and CAHIMS curriculum created by Bellevue College with funding from the National Science Foundation. The course consists of Unit 1, Introduction and Learning Strategies; Unit 2, Healthcare Environment; Unit 3, Technology Environment; Unit 4, HIMS Analysis and Design; Unit 5, HIMS Selection and Acquisition; Unit 6, HIMS Implementation and Management; Unit 7, Privacy and Security; Unit 8, Leadership and Planning; and Unit 9, Professionalism and Communication Skills.

Open Learning Initiative; In April 2010, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology awarded $10 million in grants to five domestic institutions of higher education to develop curriculum and instructional materials to enhance workforce training programs primarily at the community college level.
