Security+ - Allegany

This class is designed to prepare students for the CompTIA Security+ Certification Exam. It is a hybrid course with in-class sessions, hands-on labs, and online assignments. There are 86 videos of 10 – 15 minutes each plus lab projects and discussion questions for each chapter of the book. Security+ is structured as an eight-week course. It may also be structured as a one-week comprehensive course, like so: • Monday, Intro and Chapters 1 and 2 • Tuesday, Chapters 3 and 4 (might start 5) • Wednesday, Chapters 5, 6, and 7 • Thursday, Chapters 10 and 8 • Friday, Chapters 9 and 11 Friday is light, which supports a comprehensive end of course review. The slides are free to use if students have a copy of the paperback book. Students will need access to online materials. Chapter 10 (Cryptography) is out of order on purpose. You might find it easier to teach cryptography topics when students are fresh first thing in the morning. This also gives you an opportunity to do a heavy review on Friday morning for cryptography topics. As an extra note, cryptography is only 12% of the actual exam. However, you likely will need to spend more than 12% of class time on cryptography, as cryptography material is often unfamiliar to students.
