Clinical Information

Nursing is an art and a science, which is based upon scientific principles, knowledge and skill. The nursing process is utilized in giving safe and effective client care. Under the supervision of the professional nurse and/or physician, the practical nurse, using the problem-solving method participates in the collection of data and collaborates in the implementation and evaluation of basic nursing care. The practical nurse exhibits behaviors that demonstrate self-awareness, and also formulates appropriate interpersonal relationships. Legal and ethical issues encountered in client care will be identified and responded to appropriately.

Practical nursing is based on caring behaviors and clinical competence. The scope of practical nursing is technically oriented and centered on direct client care. The holistic approach in health care delivery is accomplished by assisting individuals to achieve and maintain an optimal level of health and functioning.

Students must complete the clinical component satisfactorily during each term beginning in the first term. Practice in the nursing lab is mandatory in order to achieve clinical skills competencies.

The grading for the clinical activities utilizing the clinical rubric will account for ___ of the student’s overall grade. Students must score at least 14 on the clinical rubric to pass the course. Failure of the clinical component results in repeating the entire term.
