Transition To Practice & Group Dynamics

Introduction

This module will discuss and review items that the new practical nurse will address as he/he transitions into his/her practice.  Group dynamics are important when team work is involved. Many LPNs go into a leadership type of role in long-term care facilities. It will be important to understand the types of leadership in addition to dealing with groups of people and the conflicts that may arise.

Objectives

Upon completion of this module, the student will be able to:
Explain the responsibilities the LPN/LVN has during a shift.
Differentiate between an error, a near-miss, an adverse incident, and a sentinel event.
Discuss the guidelines for being an effective leader and describe the various leadership styles.
Describe the common causes of conflict and how the practical nurse may respond to conflict within the group.
Demonstrate effective communication skills in the clinical setting.
