Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Summarize the process of conception
- Describe the development and function of the placenta and amniotic fluid
- Describe the development of the embryo and fetus including major milestones and potential teratogens
- Describe diagnostic techniques associated with pregnancy and implications of findings
- Determine gravida, parity, and estimated date of confinement
- Explain expected physiologic, psychological, and behavioral adaptations to pregnancy
- Explain recommended nutrition during pregnancy including weight gain and food sources
- Differentiate between pregnancies at risk for preexisting disorders
- Differentiate the pathophysiology of conditions and management of care for pregnant women with risk factors associated with gestational conditions
