The labor and delivery experiences involve many physiological and psychological processes for the mother and baby. The primary goal for nurses in these positions is to promote healthy fetal and maternal outcomes. This module focuses on the intrapartum period from the onset of labor to recovery from delivery.

- Identify pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic methods for pain relief and comfort during labor

- Describe the delivery process for a vaginal delivery and a cesarean section
- Identify risk factors and management of preterm labor
- Describe obstetric emergencies and the nurses’ role for management of care
