Introduction to Moral Philosophy and Moral Reasoning

Introduction

This module includes information on ethical theories, moral principles, and social philosophy. The duties of dental hygienists, which parallel the rights of the patients, will be stressed. The term privilege will be defined and evaluated in the context of health care.

In the practice of dental hygiene, important decisions must be made on a daily basis. When making those decisions, one should have a foundation on which to base those decisions. Studying moral philosophy and moral reasoning provides such a foundation. Moral philosophy and moral reasoning will assist the dental hygiene student in understanding, from an ethical perspective, what is right and wrong. This module will provide the foundation for ethical decision making and for solving ethical dilemmas.
