Submitting Assignments

The Blackboard assignments tool presents a variety of learning activities. You view and submit assignments from one location. Your instructor designs assignments that require you to:

  • Provide text on the Upload Assignment page.
  • Attach files from your computer or from the Content Collection.
  • Both provide text and attach files.

Assignments list the name, description, and attachments for class work. Your instructor provides you all the information you need to complete the assignment. You can include comments for your instructor before you submit your work.

Click the following links for instructions on how to submit an assignment and/or watch the accompanying video:

(Please note that although this example will mention clicking on "Assignments," in this course, you will click on "Modules" to view and submit your assignments.

How to Submit an Assignment.pdf  (pdf file)

  • After you submit your assignment, navigate to your gradesheet (Course Tools > My Grades).
  • You should see a   for that assignment. means that you have submitted the assignment and it is waiting to be graded.
  • You can check the status of your submissions immediately after you submit by checking your gradesheet. If you do not see  - the assignment was not submitted successfully.
  • Usually, if an attempted submission is not successful, a red exclamation mark icon will appear on the gradesheet - which indicates an unsuccessful attempt. If you see this icon, you should contact your instructor immediately so that the lock can be cleared allowing you to "re-submit" the assignment again (before the deadline).
  • If the grade area is empty after the deadline, Blackboard is reporting that no assignment has been submitted.
  • To check for grading, access the Grade Center and if provided, click the grade which will take you back to the assignment itself. This is important because your instructor may make "comments" about the assignment, and/or in some cases attach a file back to you. You can also return to the assignment itself within the course to see if your submission has been graded or if feedback has been given from your instructor.
