Supplemental Resources for the APICS Global Logistics Associate (GLA) Certificate

The following are supplemental resources to be utilized with the Global Logistics Associate (GLA) program, a nationally-recognized certification program sponsored by APICS (Association for Operations Management). The GLA program is a turn-key (copyrighted) program; however, the following resources have been created to enhance the GLA program and focus on key concepts within the program. There are several different formats this course can be taught in, ranging from two weeks (full-time) to 16 weeks (part-time/3 hours per day). The various resources are intended to be utilized based on the available time. There are several terminology worksheets for students and those key terminology/concepts are intended to be reinforced in VU LTEC's fully-functioning warehouse, where student's receive hands-on application to better understand the terminology. In addition, there are quizzes that accompany the terminology worksheets to measure knowledge gained. There are also class exercises and projects focusing on communication, preparing for and finding applicable jobs, and a "Build Your Own Company" project. Lastly, many of VU LTEC's GLA courses conclude with an internship or work experience at a logistics employer. A "Student Intern Monthly Evaluation" form is included for employers to evaluate their interns. In addition, the "Student Intern Monthly Journal Assignment" is for students to document how their hands-on application in a logistics internship is relevant to what they learned in the GLA program.

Quality Note:
The SME was selected based on their knowledge and experience teaching supply chain logistics courses. The SME selected was not involved in the development of any of the program materials reviewed to ensure a true third-party review. A standardized rubric was created for the review of program materials. The rubric encompassed four sections that the SME utilized as their guide to review content within a program. The SME was only required to complete the sections of the rubric for which they had materials to review (ex: if there were no "Learning Activities" to review, then they were not required to complete that respective section of the rubric). Final/Additional comments could be inserted at the end of the rubric. Sections of the rubric included: (1) Syllabus/Course Outline: Materials that are given and/or displayed to the student at the beginning of class that provide an overview of the course; (2) Instructional Materials/Design: Materials the instructor uses to teach the course (ex: PowerPoint, informational handouts, videos, etc.); (3) Learning Activities: Activities utilized to engage students to learn a specific concept(s); (4) Assessments/Evaluation: Assessments or evaluation methods utilized to gauge student understanding- can be formal or informal.
