Finding and Reusing OER

A presentation given at the HI-TEC Conference to NSF/ATE grant recipients on July 27, 2016 in Pittsburgh, PA. This presentation demonstrated how to find and re-use Open Educational Resources in SkillsCommons.org along with additional OER resources including MERLOT, COOL4ED, and others. A showcase for OER reuse was also presented highlighting the “Basic Computer Skills Course (BITS)” submitted to SkillsCommons.org by the "Intentional Networks Transforming Effective and Rigorous Facilitation of Assessment, Collaboration, and Education" (INTERFACE) round 3 TAAACCT grant project. The Ohio Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is using this course "as is” (unmodified) to train Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) eligible workers who have little to no computer experience. Also, the "Industrial Automation Manufacturing innovative Strategic Training Achieving Results" (I AM iStar) round 4 TAAACCT grant project is planning to reuse this course (unmodified) in their Fall 2016 TAACCCT Courses at Northwest State Community College in Ohio. They plan to have career coaches identify and then give the link for this course to students struggling with basic computer literacy. The Technical College System of Georgia recently discovered the course and will be updating and modifying the modules to fit their needs.
