How Can the Skills and Competencies of Professional Coaching be Useful to Our Work as Career Coaches? MP4 Video Consortium for Healthcare Education Online Career Coach Professional Development Webinar April 28, 2014

Cynthia Loy Darst delivered a professional development webinar on April 28, 2014 to Consortium for Healthcare Education Online (CHEO) career coaches on the International Coach Federation (ICF) Core Competencies and how these competencies relate to situations career coaches may experience. Cynthia has been training people in the skills of professional coaching since 1994. She uses the Core Competencies of the ICF to expand coaching knowledge through discussion of new ideas and ways of working with those being coached. STAACCCT career coaches sent information in advance of the webinar providing reflections that they were willing to share with their colleagues on one or more of the questions below. She used that feedback to dialogue with them, talking about observations and experiences. 1) As you read through the ICF Core Competencies, what is your sense of the difference between a Consultant and a Coach? 2) Which of these Competencies do you already do well? 3) When you think of the people that you work with - what skills or competencies challenge you? 4) We will be talking about challenging coaching situations. Do you have one that you would like for us to talk about during the webinar? If so, what is the basic situation? 5) How do you support your students in finding a truly fulfilling career path versus just getting a job? The ICF eleven Core Coaching Competencies were sent out in advance (see http://www.coachfederation.org/icfcredentials/core-competencies/) as a reference for these questions.
