Introduction to Chemistry/6.2 Acids and Bases

This learning object defines the characteristics of acids and bases, and identifies conjugae acid-base pairs. Determining the relative strength of acids and bases are explained, as well as the how to write the dissociation constant and equilibrium constant expression for each weak acids and bases. The object also discusses the ionization of water, describing the results following the addition of an acid or base to water. The learning object additionally introduces pH and buffers, emphasizes the determination of solutions as either acidic, basic, or neutral. Additional concepts addressed in this learning object includes pH calculations, components of buffers, and types of chemical reactions with acids and bases. This learning object also cover acid-base titration, as well as the calculation of concentration and molarity using titration data.
