Programmable Logic Controllers - Berkshire CC
This is an introductory course where students will learn about or review the fundamental concepts of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and their use in manufacturing automation. There are no prerequisites; however, some knowledge of input/output devices, the ability to read schematic diagrams, and a bit of hands-on hardware experience will be helpful. The primary objective of this course is to learn about PLC architecture, PLC component selection, and input/output devices. Students will learn to learn to create, and troubleshoot basic PLC programs from schematic diagrams, Boolean instructions and ladder diagrams. Students will work to develop skills needed to: • Understand how input/output devices work and how they interface to the PLC. • Create simple ladder logic programs using contacts, coils, counter and timers, from a variety of instructions. • Understand what the best practices are for creating programs. • Learn to use the programming software and interface with the PLC. • Create, test, and troubleshoot programs with simulation software.
