Medical Assistant Practicum - GCC

Course Description: Provides students with fieldwork, competency training, and skill-building through directed and closely supervised participation in a mixed medical clinical and office setting. Students practice their acquired skills through professionally supervised individual- and/or group-focused opportunities for involvement. Students write weekly journal entries documenting and discussing the experience, followed by a final reflective paper at the end of semester. In addition to the 180 hours of supervised, unpaid, clinical practice at a work site. Students meet for a total of 30 lab hours to develop professional writing and career skills including a professional resume, a target cover letter, and a plan of personal career development.
