Licensed Practical Nursing: Medical/Surgical - BHCC

Practical Nursing II is a course which builds on all the semester I courses with particular attention to the individuals with more complex health care needs and with problems related to alteration in health status. Principles of Nutrition and Pharmacology are applied in relation to health and the disease process. Teaching is an integral component of each unit of study. Subjective and objective data is influenced by culture, age and previous experiences of the patient and is a building block for the student to critically think. The Nursing Process is utilized as the critical thinking tool in assessing this data for the purpose of planning and implementing holistic individualized nursing care. Application of the concepts of a caring and therapeutic nurse-patient relationship is stressed. During the clinical experiences, the student will be accountable for providing competent, ethical and legal care in the role of the Practical Nurse.
