Automotive Technology Curriculum

The Automotive Technology program is a hands-on, competency-based program designed by local industry experts and employers to provide you with the knowledge and skills that employers expect. RVCC is committed to match your job placement needs at the end of training program for you to be successful in the automotive industry fulfilling your passion. The program mirrors a real-world workplace so you can learn in an actual shop environment. All program standards have been set to match the performance expectations of current automotive technicians working in this field. You will become an entry-level automotive technician after demonstrating that you have mastered the essential knowledge and skills shared by the industry's highest-performing workers. These standards are set by expert workers, employer endorsed, and carefully crafted into a professional training program that is centered on your success. Our instructors have a combination of field experience and training sufficient to meet industry accreditation standards. The student to teacher ratio allows the instructors to provide individualized instruction tailored to meet the specific needs of each student. The Automotive Technology program is approximately 12 months long. This program will teach you the Automotive Fundamentals, Transmissions & Drivelines, HVAC Maintenance, Automotive Electrical Service & Maintenance, Steering, Suspension & Brakes, Fuel System Maintenance, Cooling System Service and includes a required Professional Practicum. The Professional Practicum provides a broad base hands-on experience in the real workplace. The program follows the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified Automobile Technician Training Program standards. Graduates of the Automotive Technology program will be prepared to complete ASE exams and can substitute their training for one year of the two years of work experience required to become ASE Certified.
