Cosmetology Curriculum Resources

Cosmetology, Certificate of Professional Competency Licensed Cosmetologists are able to perform hair, skin and nail care services in salons and day spas. The Cosmetology Certificate of Professional Competency program offers an introduction to the career opportunities and successful practices in the beauty profession. Students will learn the fundamentals of hair, skin and nail services including: manicures, pedicures, scalp/hair treatments, facials, hair removal, styling and design and haircutting. Training on chemical services includes permanent waving, chemical texturizing, and hair coloring. Students will study salon business practices and prepare for employment. This noncredit program is designed with local employers’ input to best prepare students for the workforce. Upon completion of 600 hours, students will be required to perform services in the student salon and are eligible to work with a student permit in a salon. All related sciences are covered as they apply to each topic. These sciences include: anatomy and physiology, structure of the hair, skin and nails, infection control, basic chemistry and electricity.
