GFM 102 Technical Aspects of Energy, Resources & Conservation

This is a introductory course on the principles of fossil, renewable and alternative energy technologies and installation concepts. It distinguishes between energy sources in large-scale, industrial/commercial settings and those intended for smaller structures. It covers the utilization of renewable sources (solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, etc.) as well as alternatives in building operations (micro turbines, fuel cells, combined, heat and power). It is designed to prepare students for a career in the application of these technologies in building construction and retrofits. Up to 5 off-campus visits to alternative energy installations to be scheduled. Please note that all course materials and content are provided in the IMS Common Cartridge (IMSCC) format. The content can be accessed by opening the IMSCC file using your organization's Learning Management System application (these include Blackboard, D2L, Canvas etc.). Additional information about accessing Common Cartridge files can be found on the IMS Global Web site: http://www.imsglobal.org/cc. Future plans for the Skills Commons Web site include a feature that will allow users to view and download course content that is provided in the IMSCC format.
