DEH2811 Ethics

This course prepares the dental hygiene student to solve ethical dilemmas by developing decision-making skills. Moral philosophy is included in this course as an introduction to ethical principles and core values found in codes of ethics, and as a basis for critical-thinking. Students will use an ethical decision-making framework that involves recognizing an ethical dilemma to arriving at a possible solution that leads to an action that should be adopted. Students will also learn how to evaluate and justify the selected action. This course is designed to provide the dental hygiene student with an understanding of the political, social, environmental and professional issues that affect the practice of dental hygiene. These issues include: a) cultural diversity, b) legal and ethical responsibilities, c) sexual harassment d) problem solving and e) communication style.
