FIU Public Interest Technology Fellowship Program @FIU-Panther X Fellows
FIU has been focused on the future of work and learning by implementing innovations in upskilling, credentialing, and experiential learning for FIU students and for members of the local community. As the US faces a shortage of technologists in the labor force, programs like these – ones that meld learning with practicum experience – are critical. The Public Interest Technology Fellowship proposal was meant to be aligned with the University’s Future of Work initiatives with the following proposed objectives:
1. Create a platform for experiential learning specifically targeting the role of public interest technology to grow a new generation of technologists and technologically literate problem-solvers who can address the nation’s most pressing challenges in decades to come.
2. Build strategic partnerships with local municipal governments, other public sector organizations such as local workforce boards, and private enterprises to both build learning in PIT and research application of technology.
3. Begin a local interdisciplinary talent pipeline to fill future opportunities in public interest technology applications.
