Mechatronics

This course is an entry level program for individuals desiring employment in a career as an Industrial Maintenance Technician. Students will be introduced to the skills needed for employment in a manufacturing environment with an emphasis on Maintenance Operations, Basic Mechanical Systems, Electrical Systems, and Fluid Power and computer science to build and maintain high-tech equipment. Students can obtain their National Institute for Metal Working Skills (NIMS) certifications along with a PMMI Mechatronics Certification. This course covers the basics of mechanical components and electrical drives in a complex mechatronic system. You will learn the basic functions and physical properties of mechanical components as well as electrical drives (AC and DC), and the roles they play within the system. You will also learn about mechanical systems and how to increase efficiency and reduce wear and tear. Materials, lubrication requirements and surface properties will be examined. This program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills to prepare students for employment in such areas as Automation, Engineering Technology, and Production. Skills acquired are designed to lead to employment as an Industrial Maintenance Technician. Upon successful completion students will have the opportunity to earn the following certifications: OSHA 10; National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) and/or Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI); and Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) and Certified Logistics Associate (CLA).
