AC Circuits

The course covers a review of Basic Electricity and electrical safety. Introduction to the principles of Alternating Current (AC) and definitions of basic terms: sine wave, Hertz, amplitude, frequency, and period. Discussion on inductance and capacitance includes units, types, and construction, and calculations. Laboratory experiments are conducted to assist the student in the mastery of series, parallel, and combined circuits. Identification of power in AC circuits and the examination of resistance, capacitance, and inductance in series and parallel circuits are covered. Introduction to single phase transformers and single phase motors includes uses, types, schematics, characteristics, and problem solving. Introduction to three phase motors with in depth coverage and lab excises to give the student a complete understanding of theory and function of three phase induction motors. AC Circuits presumes the use of Amatrol equipment.
