Syllabus: ALTH-105 is an introduction to concepts regarding infection/prevention and control with major emphasis on the blood-born pathogens HIV and Hepatitis B. Modes of transmission, prevention and OSHA standards for blood-born pathogens, basic pathophysiology of HIV and Hepatitis B, and current treatments will be defined. Psychosocial, legal, and ethical issues about these diseases will also be discussed. Lecture: 2 hours per week
