ENGL294 Communicating Mindfully Capstone

This capstone course will review and build upon key elements of mindful communication students have been studying throughout their degree program (see prerequisites below). In particular, students will practice applying mindful communication skills in the workplace and reflect on those experiences in order to improve interactions with colleagues, customers, clients, and others (e.g., students or parents if appropriate for one’s degree program). In addition, students will work in groups of two (or three if necessary) in which each partner has a different major than the other (when possible). Through online discussion posts, students will practice mindful communication techniques in order to practice attending to others, confirming understanding, and providing feedback that is respectful, insightful, and useful in meeting their partner’s needs related to goals students have set while taking the requisite MC courses listed below. Throughout the course, students will be encouraged and given the opportunity to engage in regular contemplative practices such as mindfulness meditation.
