Paramedic Sciences
This is the course outline for Atlantic Cape Community College’s Paramedic Training. It was developed with partner AtlantiCare, the premier healthcare provider in South Jersey. The course includes five sections that introduce students to advanced concepts of understanding in the field of EMS and paramedicine. During the fourth section, the student experiences field time with trained MICU Paramedics for a period of approximately 250 hours and acts as a third crew member. During the fifth and final section, the student rides with trained MICU Paramedics for a period of approximately 250 hours and act as the second crew member. Included in each module/section are the prerequisites, learning goals, assessment strategies, textbook & materials, assignments/quizzes/exams, class times & schedule, skills lab performance, clinical requirements, appearance and personal hygiene, course grading system, and course schedule.
Throughout the five sections, students are instructed on the following: advanced patient assessment techniques, advanced airway management, medical terminology, pharmacology, cardiology, anatomy and physiology, advanced patient assessment and management of the distressed patient, advanced airway management, medical terminology, pharmacology, cardiology, anatomy and physiology, cardiology and 12 Lead interpretations, the nervous system, gastroenterology, the reproductive system, obtaining ACLS certification, areas of trauma, special populations and EMS operations, instruction of advanced patient assessment techniques and management, advanced airway management, medical terminology, pharmacology, cardiology, anatomy and physiology. Students will also gain certifications in PALS and PHTLS. The course will also expose students to real life situations in which patients will require advanced life support intervention.
