Certified Nurse Aid

This is the course outline for Atlantic Cape Community College’s Certified Nurse Aid. The following are course objectives: understanding healthcare settings, the nursing aid and the care team; legal and ethical issues; communication and cultural diversity; preventing infections; safety and body mechanisms; emergency care and disaster preparation; human needs and human development; the healthy human body; positioning; transfers and ambulation; admitting, transferring and discharging; the resident’s unit; personal care skills; basic nursing skills’ nutrition and hydration; urinary elimination; bowel elimination; common chronic and acute conditions; confusion, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease; mental health and mental illness; rehabilitation and restorative care; special care skills; and dying, death and hospice. It includes four modules, the length of the course, each objective, with a breakdown by topic, objectives, competencies, learning structures, method of presentation, explanation, evaluation, assignments, and assessments.
