Networking Security

This is the course outline for Capital Community College’s Networking Security. The course will provide the student with the skills and knowledge needed to detect malicious programs and choose appropriate risk mitigation techniques to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of mission critical data. The student will learn how to install, configure, and utilize open source resources to detect attacks and protect operating systems against malicious code including viruses, worms, and Trojans. The student will also learn how to use authentication, authorization, and accounting to monitor and audit access to network resources. The course will also prepare the student for the Security+ certification exam. This course introduces the student to introductory networking security principles including confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA) and provides them with hands-on experience using various open source tools to protect unauthorized access to network resources. Course topics include: Networking Security Fundamentals, Networking Security Compliance and Operation, Network Vulnerabilities and Threats, Access Control and User Management, and Encryption.
