Information Assurance and Risk Management

This is the course outline for Capital Community College’s Information Assurance and Risk Management. This course is designed to introduce students to information assurance and risk mitigation principles as applied to information management. Topics covered in the course include asset identification, vulnerabilities assessment, risk management, threat identification, and physical safeguards of mission critical data. Students will also learn how to conduct a security gap analysis, create a risk management plan, and select an appropriate risk control. Students will learn how to implement risk assessment strategies, test, and update business continuity/disaster recovery plan, and use proper access controls to protect the facility, data and equipment. Additionally, students will learn how to apply risk management techniques and concepts to personal information security management in such areas as employment screening, and the employee termination process.
