KVCC ETC240 Electronic Communication Systems

This theory/lab course will introduce students to the circuits and systems behind both analog and digital electronic communication systems with emphasis on high frequency (RF) signaling. Electronic communication systems such as radio, television, and CATV broadcast, HDTV, cellular technologies, wireless, and microwave communication systems will be introduced. Topics include RF spectrum analysis, signaling power levels, time and frequency domain analysis, RF filters and amplifiers, modulation techniques, transmission lines, radio-wave propagation, transmitters and receivers, antenna design, and the effects of high frequency in test and measure will be covered. The lab component of this course is designed to reinforce theory by providing hands-on applications through a series of related lab projects. Students will build, test, measure, and troubleshoot a number of complex RF circuits. Electronic test and measurement equipment such as the digital storage oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, wave form generator, digital multi-meter (DMM), and variable DC power supply will be used extensively throughout the course.
