INDS150 Industrial Design Studio I

Designing meaningful, innovative and functional objects can be achieved through a wide variety of processes. Since designers solve problems, and each problem is different, there is no single design process. Different projects require different approaches. This class will address the diversity of the design process by covering common design problem solving methods and by learning from others about their particular processes. The design process is introduced and practiced as students apply learned fundamental principles to multiple forms, structures, and products. Students will utilize their drawing skills and be introduced to various model making methods. The emphasis will be on process, so students are expected to present documentation of their entire design process for each project which will be the foundation of their professional portfolio. Class time consists of lectures, in-class exercises, group discussions, guest lectures and videos.
