Pediatric Nursing

This course introduces pediatrics for nursing students. Topics covered include differences between caring for children of various age groups; making age-related adjustments in areas such as obtaining vital signs, abnormal vital signs, assessments, administering medications, and common fears; the professional nurse's role in child health promotion and maintenance; care required for alterations in fluid and electrolyte status, the respiratory or cardiovascular systems, neuromuscular function, or developmental delays in children; and care required by children experiencing alterations in the gastrointestinal or genitourinary systems, hematologic conditions, endocrine abnormalities, or skeletal dysfunction.
