AC 113
Schematic Reading for HVAC/R

Description
This course will familiarize students with the schematic diagrams and their symbols utilized in the HVAC/R industry.
This class is online in Canvas. After logging into the class, work through each Module in sequence. You must complete the Getting Started Module in order to access the rest of the class. There is a quiz at the end of each chapter in Canvas. Labs will be completed in Room 273 at TMCC on Edison Way.
AC 113 Objectives
Students will learn to read and interpret the various types of schematic diagrams utilized in the HVAC/R industry.
This class will familiarize the students with schematics utilized on air conditioning systems, commercial refrigeration, residential systems, light commercial rooftop systems including heat pumps and multistage systems.
Students will practice safety while working with electricity.
Students will prepare schematic diagrams for various HVAC systems as part of their Lab assignments.
AC 113 Course Outcomes
Outcome: Students will demonstrate their knowledge of Basic Electricity, Electric Circuits, Schematics, and component symbols.
Outcome: Students will demonstrate their knowledge of associated HVAC components and their ability to utilize the schematic to troubleshoot faulty HVAC control systems.
Outcome: Students will demonstrate their ability to systematically diagnose problems and repair HVAC safety and control systems.
Outcome: Students will demonstrate proficiency in Troubleshooting and in the use of Multi-meters to troubleshoot faulty electrical controls.

Homework:
The topics listed below are the chapters in the text book that are to be completed. After studying each chapter, you should try to answer the review questions at the end of the chapter before taking the quiz. Your lab projects are to be completed at TMCC Edison Rm. 278 and 209.

GRADING SYSTEM FOR COURSE: Half of your final grade will be the average of the Questions taken from the Units listed above and your score on the HVAC Excellence exam. You have one chance to take each Quiz in Canvas. Therefore, I suggest you do the questions in the back of each chapter before taking the Quiz online.
The 2nd half of your grade will be based on the completion of all Lab Projects. Lab Projects will consist of wiring components correctly, and preparing schematic diagrams for various types of HVAC/R equipment
Your attendance and participation in Labs and Workshops also plays a part in your grade.
